Margaret joined Reeves+Neylan in February 2002 as a Tax Partner and now heads up the Reeves+Neylan Tax Practice. Prior to this Margaret spent more than 20 years in the City of London - the last six of which were spent working within the Entrepreneurial Solutions Group of KPMG.
Since joining Reeves+Neylan Margaret has advised on various assignments including the following:
Advised the shareholders of companies selling their businesses for sums ranging between 1.2m and 50m pounds. Consideration typically took the form of cash, equity and loan notes, or a combination thereof. Margaret's advice would have dealt with not only tax minimisation but would have also covered issues such as the importance of obtaining Inland Revenue advance clearances and reporting of the transaction on the shareholders income tax returns.
Advising incoming Management Teams undertaking buy-outs or buy-ins. In particular looking at the market values of the shares taken in the buy-out vehicle to minimise the likely tax payable on a future sale by the management team. Advising on employment related securities legislation.
Advice to management teams involved in private equity backed transactions in connection with falling within the “safe harbour” as set out in the 2003 joint HMRC/BVCA Memorandum of Understanding in relation to the shares/securities being acquired.

Advising on share buy-backs.
Advising on the tax deductibility of deal based professional fees.
Advising companies in relation to acquisitions including whether more efficient to purchase shares or assets.
Advising on various share option schemes in particular Enterprise Management Incentive Schemes.
Advising on Enterprise Incentive Scheme reliefs and VCT reliefs.
Provision of corporation tax advice to both stand-alone companies and groups of companies.
Cross border tax issues including thin cap/ permanent establishment/with- holding tax issues
undertaking detailed capital allowance planning exercises.
Undertaking corporation restructurings including statutory de-mergers and S110 reorganisations.
Advising inward investors in particular in relation to transfer pricing including thin capitalisation.
Advising on Controlled Foreign Company Legislation and likely changes re the taxation of foreign dividend income.
Personal Interests
Margaret is a keen equestrian, particularly dressage and looks after four horses. She also enjoys Scottish country dancing, yoga, dog walking, the theatre, cinema and spending time with husband Peter.
